Tuitions

Everyone of us who have gone through high school in Malaysia would definitely know that school itself is not enough. Yeah, tuition is the solution. I remembered how much I enjoyed going for tuition classes. The only phrase that I could describe it is "enjoyable and yet you learn a lot". I didn't really take any tuition except when I was in Standard 6, Form 3 and Form 4-6. Form 4-6 tuition for physics is the most unforgetable experience I've ever gained. I joined Mr Moay's class for like 4 years!...and honestly...he is really good.

You could never find a teacher that puts a smile on your face in every single physics tuition class. His jokes, omg... it just keeps on coming and coming. Damn I miss those moments so much! I miss it even more when I'm having lecture or tutorial sessions. It reminds me how much I enjoy listening to whatever was thought back then and yea I really understand and learn it. I never feel the excitement in most of those sessions. It has lost in translation. Somehow it was drowned by boring lectures that are high profile in their field, but not the lecturing skills.

I don't get why that a teacher could teach so well, so detail, so exciting and so relax...when lectures/tutors in my university are usually tensed up, dull, and not to mention do not have the interesting vibe. Indeed it is sad to see this happening at the last education stage but I know everytime I close my eyes in the lecture/tutor sessions, I will remember the best moments that I've got during physics tuition.

University Life...

Sometimes life it drags you down and plays you like a fool, makes you feel so empty sometimes it can be so cruel. Its just a stage/part of your life...a bad part that is. For me... university life would be that. I'm a very anti social person. I go to uni and come back. In uni, I sit alone listening to lecture or tutorials. Other than that, I just lurk around the computer lab passing my time by.

I hate this stage. I could be studying now, but I end up blogging as I cant stand this crazy part of my life anymore. But I do wonder, how long will this stage of my life be? 4 years? 20 years? No one knows...I asked around about my situation. Some told me to move on. I dont know what do they mean by move on....but I'm just me....why must I move on when I am comfortable with my previous life ? What I can say is "All good things come to an end" Yeah, they do. They come immediatly, but also part quietly. When you finally realise that, it hurts like hell. But what am I to do? Life is just so fucked up sometimes.

Life is nothing without friends. Thats what I'm feeling now too. I have practically no friends now. I dont know if I will continue being like that...but I see people around me, they laugh, they smile, they chat, they tease and most of all, they socialise happily. I envy them so much as they could just make tonnes of friends in a month. For me? I'm just quiet at new environment. Love to be alone all the time. Usually, I dont get comfortable easily in new environments. Yeah, its hard to be in a new environment, especially a quiet one.

Studies isnt going good either. I cant get much what is being thought. Lectures is just a session of speech rather a session of education in this uni. Oh help... I havent found life yet, please help !

Traffic Shaping by TMnet Streamyx

For so many years I've used TMnet Streamyx...this seems to be the worst year. TMnet Streamyx introduced Traffic Shaping to throttle or block P2P traffic. Of course TMnet didn't announce yet, but they are doing it now already. This problem started as early as February when some users found their BT n Emule speed drops drastically from fullspeed to 0kb/s. Everyone wondered what happened. They check their modem, their P2P settings, their routers and lastly did their bandwidth test. Everything seems normal, but why BT n Emule speed is still 0kb/s ??? My problem started on this Monday (20/03/2006). I on my PC and started BT initially the speed was from 0-5kb/s only. I left it on and went out. When I got back, the speed is still the same. So I thought it was the connection. I disconnected and reconnected again. Yikes, still the same thing. Then, I started testing mIRC and FTP's. They are alright, could reach fullspeed. Why BT is 0kb/s for a few days ????

Later, more and more user started to complain in forums (yep I did). They discussed this situation and later found that TMnet Streamyx started traffic shaping, where they filter those unwanted P2P traffic. This technology was out not long ago. It is reported that ISPs from Canada (Shaw, Rogers etc) started this around 2004 [source from Lowyat.net forum]. The customers there complained about this matter but their ISPs just lied right to their faces and said they did not block anything. At that moment, their ISPs are actually installing this on stages, therefore some customers experienced this and some did not. Eventually when the installation of this traffic shaping reached almost 80-90%, they started to announce this to their customers. [ full story : http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=266289&st=20 Post #29]
Hint, hint: This is what TMnet is exactly doing now... even if you call and complain about this, they will deny it until the right time comes.

The other thing is, TMnet isn't announcing about this. They are keeping their mouth shut and future customers might not know about this and subscribe for it. In the end, they would have tied more customers and when its time to fully operate the traffic shaping, then only they would announce. I find TMnet being greedy and horrible. They have overloaded their own bandwidths by getting more customers and did not upgrade it. Then they start to accuse customers of utilising lots of their bandwidths and "abuse" the bandwidths. (Yea TMnet are incompetent fools) Thats what I'm thinking and its facts.

From what I know now, people have said that TMnet stops traffic shaping from 4AM to 7AM daily.....but I think this would not last long once they have fully install the system.

Therefore, the affordable broadband is soon to be stupid. Stupid ISP!

Oh no!!!! Measat 3 delay again?

I've just read the newspaper today and guess what? Measat 3 launch would be delay over and over again ! Thats just great....

Whats so good about this Measat 3?

Basically, my main desire from Measat 3 is that it will drastically improve the quality broadcast of ASTRO. As you all know, ASTRO is based on satellite to broadcast their paytv. Measat 3 plans to be used to replace Measat 1 and Measat 3 has more bandwidths to continue broadcasting channels. Increase of more bandwidths enables customers to enjoy better video broadcast quality and also, additions of more new channels for better variety. The video quality they are broadcasting now is just plain ugly and yucky...and the audio? I swear its either 128kbps or lower ! And I swear they did something to Channel [V]. One particular day, suddenly they have accidentally changed some settings on Channel [V] and the videos are so sharp ! The pictures, the text, the logo...everything is sharp ! I always thought that [V] is that blur because of the original source.....now... I know ASTRO's been blurring that channel for no reason...sucks isnt it? Now? Its blur again. At times they will slot in their videos ...they put [V] logo on them and its sharp...its weird...when they slot in their vids, its sharp...but when slot in Channel [V] contents, they purposely make them blur....idiots.

What can you expect from Measat 3?

Well, for most customers....they will not be happy...why? When Measat 3 launched, new addition of channels means repackaging of the services and indirectly, prices are going up....so..there goes your pockets :s.

Ops, I was wrong! Fact: TMnet continues being sux...TMNET BLOCKS P2P !

Oh dear, it seems that I've heard wrong..... things are not gonna be good anymore with tmnet streamyx. You know, tmnet is being a wuss and they are getting really incompetent. On 1st March 2006, Star Tech published an article talking about P2P eating up the broadband bandwidth ... here is the story >> http://star-techcentral.com/tech/story.asp?file=/2006/3/1/technology/13540730&sec=technology

But I guess this post might be deleted after a while...so let me paste some important facts from the news.
Facts from the news:
1. CYBERJAYA: Peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic is choking up local broadband lines with 20% of users utilising 80% of the total bandwidth, according to Internet service provider (ISP) TM Net Sdn Bhd.

2. TM Net will introduce a number of time-based packages to cater for low-bandwidth users by the third quarter

3. Fadhullah said other countries with high broadband penetration also faced similar problems because “broadband users have a tendency to abuse bandwidth.”

4. “We are not against our customers using P2P. However, it is an unfair situation which needs to be addressed, as we cannot upgrade our infrastructure (merely) for the benefit of the minority,” he said.

My point of view:

1. Hey, we buy the line and package, we are entitled to use it on any possible way, except for hacking, DDOS or online frauds. But that statistic is nonsense. Just imagine, you have many customers using this service but the international link isnt upgraded...of course the percentage will increase...dont you think so? That is what exactly TMnet is trying to do. Blame on consumers... I mean... if you dont have enough bandwidth...why bother advertising more? Yikes...I forgot they only want to earn money, so this message is indirectly telling consumers, use it or get lost. !!!

2. Thats just a cheapskate way to announce to the public "We are introducing new packages so that we can earn more money from you and we dont need to upgrade bandwidths that frequent anymore, cheers :D"

3. Ohhhh...Ohhhhh.... broadband users abuse the bandwidth? Thats nonsense because you are abusing Malaysian citizens who are using your services. That would sound better. I've never heard before that such company would actually blame on their customers for abusing the broadband bandwidths because they just want to earn more money, thus creating reasons that seems valid. Like I've said, we have paid for the line and of course you would expect users to use them as much as possible. Its just like paying for gym. Once you have paid, you are entitled to go there anytime and fully use all the facilites without any restriction. I think TMnet is being ridiculous. They expect us to subscribe to their line and just restrict ourselves to browsing and check email or play yahoo online games ??? Thats like going to the gym, using the threadmill and cycle machine while the rest is restricted.

4. Of course you are not against customers using P2P, but you are against customers fully using their bandwidths. You are againts the smart consumer principles. I'm sure one principle that we all know is make good use of what you have paid for. That is what exactly consumers are doing...in the end they got the blame for "abusing the broadband bandwidth". And I'm sure you didn't mean unfair to other customers, but unfair to yourselves because you need to upgrade the bandwidth. You are only providing customers packages from dialup to 2.oMbps and you are complaining to the media about it? This truely shows how incompetent you are. Look at HK, Taiwan? They have much faster speeds provided to home users and they continue improving in many ways. You? Complaining in many ways. You are just plain LAME !

Thats all peoples, yeah even BT is blocked sucks isnt it? What else can we expect from nutty company like TMnUt?... I guess only nuts.

TMnet Streamyx problem on BT !

Well of course whoever subscribed to streamyx will know they have a few nicknames like tmnut, stimyx, screamyx etc....well at times they do deserve this. For so many years using streamyx, the most painful part is when they are doing maintainence practice last time (few years back). During this period, the internet is like a snail trying to crawl through bumpy roads.....super slow and makes me wanna scream (yes screamyx = scream to the max). But lately they seem to worked on that problem.

Although such problem either seldom happens or occur, sometimes its the international undersea cable thats causing misery to subscribers, like now....downloading BT from 50kb/s turns to 2kb/s ???? Thats a hard hit on me dude...imagine new tv series is out and you are dying to watch it...but only 2kb/s download speed??? Yes this is really annoying.
I'm a regular visitor of Lowyat.net forum. They have very well information about this problem...http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=263472 >> Why is StreamyX so slow?

So to every user here, now you know why your bt is hella slow, and nope it isnt your client, but streamyx. Just be patient and hopefully everything turns out well :s
